About Waterford
What it's like to live here
Waterford is a town of about 20,400 people on Long Island Sound, bordered by New London on the east and the Niantic River on the west. I-95 crosses the town, downtown New London and its Amtrak station and ferries are about 10 minutes away, and Hartford is a little over an hour. The shoreline has parks and small coves, while the north end around Quaker Hill runs along the Thames River.
Waterford was part of New London until October 8, 1801, when farmers petitioned to form their own town. Jordan Village grew up around a Baptist congregation founded in 1710, granite quarries in Graniteville ran from the late 1800s into the 1930s, and sheep farms later gave way to dairy farms. Edward and Mary Harkness built their summer estate, Eolia, here in 1906 and 1907, and Mary Harkness left it to the state. Today the town is also home to the Millstone Power Station.
Our Colchester office at 392 South Main Street is about 35 minutes northwest, and our headquarters is at 40 West High Street in East Hampton. Our agents live and sell here.
