About South Windsor

What it's like to live here

South Windsor is a Hartford County town of about 27,000 people on the east bank of the Connecticut River, across from Windsor. I-291 and I-84 put downtown Hartford about 9 miles away, roughly 15 to 20 minutes, and Manchester is about 10 minutes south. The west side along the river is still farmland and tobacco fields, while the east side is mostly suburban neighborhoods, parks and shopping.

Settlers from Windsor began farming the east side of the river in the 1600s, and John Bissell's ferry joined the two sides starting in 1648. The area became part of East Windsor in 1768 and was incorporated as South Windsor in 1845. Theologian Jonathan Edwards was born here, and tobacco built the town's fortunes, with shade-grown tobacco introduced in 1901. The population more than tripled between 1950 and 2000 as farms gave way to neighborhoods.

Our Glastonbury office at 59 Sycamore Street is about 25 minutes south, and our East Hampton headquarters is at 40 West High Street. Our agents live and sell here.
