About Middlefield
What it's like to live here
Middlefield is a Middlesex County town of about 4,300 people, including the village of Rockfall, set between Middletown and Meriden. Downtown Middletown is about 10 minutes away, Meriden about 15 and Hartford about 30, yet much of the town is still orchards, farmland and the ridges of Higby and Besek mountains, with Lake Beseck in the middle of it all.
The name comes from its spot halfway between Middletown and Durham and between Middletown and Meriden. The area was recognized as its own parish in 1744 and became a separate town in 1866, one of the last in Connecticut, after being part of Middletown. John and Hope Lyman started farming here in 1741, and Lyman Orchards now covers more than 1,100 acres. The Middlefield Center Historic District was added to the National Register in 2012.
Our Middletown office at 32 Washington Street is about 10 minutes away, and our headquarters is at 40 West High Street in East Hampton. Our agents live and sell here.
