About Killingworth

What it's like to live here

Killingworth is a Middlesex County town of about 6,300 people covering nearly 36 square miles just north of Clinton. Route 81 is the main road through town, downtown Middletown is about 17 miles north, roughly 25 minutes, and I-95 in Clinton is about 12 minutes south. Most of the town is rural, with Chatfield Hollow State Park, parcels of Cockaponset State Forest and quiet back roads.

Killingworth was established from land called Hammonasset and named for Kenilworth, England, the former home of early settler Edward Griswold. The Rev. Abraham Pierson taught some of the first classes of what became Yale University in his Killingworth home, which today sits in Clinton, since the southern part of town separated as Clinton in 1838. Killingworth moved from New London County to the new Middlesex County in 1785, and it is the subject of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem "The Birds of Killingworth."

Our Middletown office at 32 Washington Street is about 25 minutes north, and our headquarters is at 40 West High Street in East Hampton. Our agents live and sell here.
