About Haddam
What it's like to live here
Haddam is a Middlesex County town of about 8,900 people on both banks of the Connecticut River, just south of Middletown. Route 154 and Route 9 run along the west side, so downtown Middletown is about 15 minutes from Haddam Center and Hartford is about 40 minutes away, while Haddam Neck on the east bank stays quiet and wooded. Cockaponset State Forest, the second-largest in the state, has land here too.
Haddam was incorporated in 1668, named for Much Hadham and Little Hadham in England, and it is the only Connecticut town the river divides down the middle. Higganum Landing was a river port and shipbuilding center from the late 1700s to the mid-1800s, and the Haddam Center Historic District keeps Federal-era homes and granite civic buildings along Route 154. Haddam Neck was home to the Connecticut Yankee nuclear plant, now decommissioned.
Our Middletown office at 32 Washington Street is about 15 minutes north of Higganum on Route 9, and our headquarters is at 40 West High Street in East Hampton. Our agents live and sell here.
