About East Hampton

What it's like to live here

East Hampton is a Middlesex County town of about 13,100 people built around Lake Pocotopaug, with 9 miles of shoreline in the middle of town. Route 66 runs west through Portland to downtown Middletown, about 9 miles away, and Route 2 puts downtown Hartford about 21 miles, roughly 30 minutes, to the north. Beyond the lake and the Village Center, the town is wooded and hilly, with Meshomasic State Forest, Salmon River State Forest and Hurd State Park all partly or entirely inside its borders.

Settlers from Eastham, Massachusetts arrived in 1739, and the town split from Middletown in 1767 under the name Chatham before becoming East Hampton. William Barton built the first bell factory on Bevin Hill in 1808, and about thirty bell makers followed in the 1800s, which is how East Hampton became Belltown. Lakeside hotels, cottages and pavilions ranked second only to bell making as a local livelihood, and the river village of Middle Haddam built ocean-going ships.

Our headquarters is right here at 40 West High Street in the Village Center, and our Middletown office at 32 Washington Street is about 9 miles west on Route 66. Our agents live and sell here.
