About Cromwell
What it's like to live here
Cromwell is a Middlesex County town of about 14,300 people on the west bank of the Connecticut River, just north of Middletown. I-91 and Route 9 both run through town, so downtown Middletown is about 3 miles south and downtown Hartford is about 14 miles, roughly 20 minutes, north. Neighborhoods run from the historic river village along Main Street to newer streets on the west side near Evergreen Road.
For two centuries Cromwell was the Upper Houses, the northern part of Middletown, with its own church, school and small river port. It became its own town in 1851, named for Oliver Cromwell or the privateer that carried his name. J. & E. Stevens grew into the country's largest maker of cast-iron toys here, and Andrew N. Pierson built the largest commercial rose-growing business in the country. The PGA Tour has played the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands since 1984.
Our Middletown office at 32 Washington Street is about 3 miles south, and our East Hampton headquarters is a short drive across the river. Our agents live and sell here.
