About Clinton

What it's like to live here

Clinton is a Middlesex County town of about 13,400 people on Long Island Sound, between Madison and Westbrook with Killingworth to the north. Interstate 95 and Route 1 cross the town, Shore Line East stops at Clinton station near downtown, and New Haven is about 30 minutes west. The village center sits on Clinton Harbor, and Hammonasset Beach State Park is about 3 miles away in Madison.

The land, once called Hammonasset, was laid out as a plantation in 1663 and became the town of Kenilworth, later Killingworth, in 1667. The Rev. Abraham Pierson held the first classes of the Collegiate School, later Yale University, in his parsonage here. The southern part of Killingworth incorporated as Clinton in 1838, named for New York Governor DeWitt Clinton, and Liberty Green, the old town common and militia training ground, still anchors the village historic district.

Our Middletown office at 32 Washington Street is about 40 minutes north, and our headquarters is at 40 West High Street in East Hampton. Our agents live and sell here.
