About Bolton
What it's like to live here
Bolton is a Tolland County town of about 4,800 people on roughly 15 square miles of hills, lakes and woods just east of Manchester. I-384 ends here and US Routes 6 and 44 run through town, so downtown Manchester is about 10 minutes away and downtown Hartford about 20. One-acre minimum residential lots help keep the town rural.
Bolton was incorporated in 1720, and Jonathan Edwards was installed as its pastor in 1723. The town was known for its schist stone, quarried around Bolton Notch, where a small village called Quarryville grew up and stone went by oxcart to the Connecticut River. In 1781 Rochambeau's French army camped on what is now Bolton Heritage Farm, which the town bought in 2000 and which is listed on the National Register as the Fifth Camp of Rochambeau's Infantry. The Bolton Green Historic District surrounds Town Hall on Bolton Center Road.
Our Glastonbury office at 59 Sycamore Street is about 13 miles from Bolton Center, roughly 25 minutes. Our agents live and sell here.
